Through strategic work with institutional investors, NHSA helps them tailor their social investment commitments in ways that will meet urgent local needs.

NHSA is a lending resource in support of the work of over 240 community development organizations. NHSA gives these organizations access to affordable loan products and services to assist residents in the improvement of their homes and whole neighborhoods.

As a national nonprofit secondary market, NHSA

  • purchases first mortgages for homeownership from local lender partners of nonprofit organizations;
  • purchases loans with recourse that have been originated by, or assigned to, a nonprofit organization; and
  • provides interim development financing and permanent mortgages for nonprofit-owned properties.

In 2000, NHSA created Community Housing Capital, a community development financial institution, to provide nonprofit direct lending, including interim development and permanent multifamily loans to NeighborWorks organizations.

In 2006, NHSA expanded its services to the broader community development field through its nonprofit subsidiary Just Price Solutions (JPS).  Just Price Solutions, has developed two sophisticated, web-based applications—an innovative automated underwriting system and one-of-a-kind loss mitigation platform.
